There is a huge range of DACs available today, but many use delta-sigma chips and I was drawn to the idea of an R-2R DAC. I also liked the simplicity of the DENAFRIPS Ares II DACs, as I don't need a headphone amplifier and other bells and whistles.
The sound is fantastic with the Ares II in my system. I am totally impressed. Thanks for the prompt delivery too. Your website said 7-10 days and it arrived really quickly after I was informed of shipping. The Ares II deserves all the hype it's been receiving on the Internet. Now I want to hear the Terminator, but it's a bit out of my price range at the moment.
Wharfedale Evo 4.4 speakers, Rega Elicit-R integrated amp, Rotel RDV-1050 CD/DVD-A player, Lenovo Thinkpad laptop for media streaming via USB, and Denafrips Ares II.
I also have an old Marantz CD65 II/SE, which has some good old 16-bit TDA1541A DAC chips in it. Not quite as good as the Ares, but one of the reasons I went with an R-2R DAC.
