I'm very happy with my purchase of the Ares 2. I was looking for a small setup to use at the office. Something that I could control from my PC and would not take up a lot of space on my desk. Eventually I bought the Mezze Lirics at a discount and the Topping A90 Discrete was on the way. Since I heard of the Denafrips lineup I was very curious about the R-2R technology and the Ares 2 was a great starting point. Since it has a small footprint and USB output was highly rated on this DAC, it seamed a good choice.
I have to mention that opportunities to listen to gear in person are very rare for me, so this was not a deterrent for me. And the reviews online are very helpful in assessing the DACs capabilities.
The DAC sounds wonderful and is priced appropriately. I did some comparative listening in my home setup, using my Mezze Elite and comparing it to the Naim Unity HE. Overall the DAC has brought me much enjoyment and I would certainly consider buying more products from Denafrips. The Ares 2 made my Elites sound even better, overall more separation and detail.
I leave you with a couple of pictures of my setup. Nothing to fancy, however the Mezze upgraded cables are a must (both the copper and silver versions are worth it). They are simply better than the stock that come with the headphones and since the system is fully balanced, it would be a shame no to buy balanced cables. As for the A90De. It is a beast and certainly pairs well with the Aeres 2.
Last detail I have to mention is the buying process. I have bought products outside Europe before and the customs can be very nerve-racking. So I was pleased when I received my Aeres without any issues and in a time frame that I did not expect.
Many thanks to your team.
Yours sincerely,
Ismael @ Spain
